Prices for this game fluctuated heavily in early 2024 when a new hack was revealed.
In December 2023, Martin Piper, a former developer at Argonaut Games, revealed that the PS1 game Alien Resurrection had been hiding a secret for over 23 years: a series of cheat codes that turned the retail disc into a boot disc, capable of running burned CD-R backups on an unmodified PlayStation.
Using multiple layered button combinations, players could unlock a hidden cheat menu, activate a level select, and trigger a third code that would stop the disc from spinning — allowing a swap to any burned game, which would then boot while bypassing Sony’s copy protection entirely. No mod chip, soft mod, or memory card was needed.
Piper explained the feature was originally a technical experiment for disc-swapping, as Alien Resurrection was once planned as a multi-disc game. He never told Sony or most of his own team about it. GamesRadar+ His reason for finally revealing it? “I figured it was so long ago and that I didn’t want to get old and die without letting go of these kind of secrets.”
