Ridge Racer is the 1993 Namco arcade racer ported to the PlayStation, published in PAL regions by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. This is the rental-trade variant, distributed across Italy, Germany, France, the UK, the Netherlands and Spain on 29 September 1995 alongside the retail launch. It is housed in the dedicated Rental Case used by video rental outlets, with no hologram on the case and a single English-language disc inside. The barcode 0711719657422 is shared with the Platinum issue, a quirk that occasionally causes confusion in identification. Rental copies were typically discarded or destroyed at the end of their commercial life, which makes surviving examples noticeably scarcer than retail variants and a target for collectors interested in the commercial distribution side of early PlayStation history.
