Grand Theft Auto Platinum (UK)

Grand Theft Auto is the open-world crime game from DMA Design that kicked off the series, played from a top-down view across three fictional cities. This Platinum pressing lists Take 2 Interactive as publisher.

It is the UK Platinum release, dated 1 January 1999, when the game was reissued in Sony’s best-seller range. The game is housed in a Full Jewel PAL case with a Hologram B, holds a single disk and offers English, French, German and Italian language options. The EAN barcode is 5026555190084.

As a Platinum edition, it uses the range’s familiar branding while keeping the same case format as the earlier Original. It is a very accessible entry point for collectors, as Platinum copies are generally easier to find than the first BMG Interactive pressing. It is also a usefull marker for dating the point at which the game moved to a budget price tier in the UK.
