Contra: Legacy of War is a third-person shooter developed by Appaloosa Interactive and published by Konami, the first entry in the Contra series to use 3D gameplay and the first PAL console release to carry the Contra name rather than the Probotector identity used in earlier European versions. This wide-territory release covers the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the Netherlands, carrying serial SLES-00608 and released on 13 March 1997. Presented in a Full Jewel PAL case with no hologram, the disc is in English. This is the sole PAL variant catalogued, representing the complete European and broader PAL release for the title. The historical significance of the Contra branding being used in Europe for the first time adds collector context to what is otherwise the game’s only physical PAL pressing.
