X2: No Relief
X2, sometimes referred to as Project X-2, is an arcade-style side-scrolling shoot ’em up developed by Ocean Software and published by Team17 in Europe in 1996. A sequel to the Amiga shooter Project-X, X2 was a PlayStation exclusive, with a planned Sega Saturn version cancelled during development. It is the product of the notable Team17-Ocean collaboration era that also produced the Worms series. The story follows retired pilot Commander Miner, called back into action against an alien invasion. Only one PAL variant has been catalogued, a France, UK, and Germany Original release from November 1996 in a Multiway Jewel Two Disk case without a hologram. The Multiway Jewel format and the game’s origin in the Team17-Ocean partnership make this an appealing curio for collectors of mid-1990s PAL shooters and British gaming history.
