World League Soccer '98
SLES-00717
Initially Released 29 May 1998
World League Soccer ‘98 is a football simulation developed by Silicon Dreams Studio and published by Eidos Interactive, released in May 1998. The game features eight major European leagues plus US and Japanese competitions, with 145 teams, live commentary from Peter Brackley and Ray Wilkins, and motion capture from Les Ferdinand.
Four PAL variants have been catalogued, covering the UK, Italy, Spain, France, and Germany. All are Original releases in Full Jewel PAL cases with Hologram A on the cases and a single disc each. A UK pressing and a combined Italy and Spain pressing share serial SLES-00717, while France and Germany each carry separate serials (SLES-01166 and SLES-01167 respectively), suggesting localised content differences in the French and German versions.
Silicon Dreams went on to produce two sequels: Michael Owen’s World League Soccer ‘99 and Michael Owen’s WLS 2000. For collectors of mid-era Eidos football titles, the four-variant PAL set is an achievable goal with the French and German pressings being somewhat harder to locate.
