Virus

Virus, subtitled It is Aware, is a 1999 action-horror game developed and published by the French studio Cryo Interactive Entertainment. It is a tie-in to the 1999 comic book film of the same name, which was based on the Dark Horse Comics series. The story follows an alien electrical life-form that hijacks a ship and infects its crew, with police officer Joan Averil sent in to investigate. Like the film, it was poorly received. It should not be confused with David Braben’s earlier computer game Zarch, which was also released under the name Virus.

Only one PAL variant is catalogued, an Original release dated 1999-06-25. It covers the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain, with English, French, German, Italian and Spanish languages listed. The edition uses a Full Jewel PAL case with a single disc.

As a single multi-country pressing, it is simple to collect, though a complete copy is a curiosity of the era’s film licences. Collectors of Cryo titles and movie tie-ins will find it a worthwhile, if unusual, addition.
