Versailles

Versailles, released in full as Versailles 1685: Complot � la cour du Roi Soleil, is a 3D adventure game developed and published by Cryo Interactive Entertainment, with co-publishing by Canal+ Multimedia and the R�union des Mus�es Nationaux. The game places players in the role of a young valet at the court of Louis XIV, tasked with uncovering a conspiracy that threatens to set fire to the palace of Versailles. A commercial success, the title sold 500,000 units in Europe alone by the year 2000. Five PAL variants are catalogued, covering France, the UK, Italy, Germany, and an undocumented fifth pressing, with earliest releases from 14 April 1998. All known variants use Full Jewel PAL cases with Hologram A stickers and present a range of languages including English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish. The game’s cultural and institutional backing lends it a prestige that distinguishes it from typical genre entries of the period.
