Tomb Raider

Tomb Raider is the 1996 action-adventure that introduced Lara Croft to the world, developed by Core Design and published by Eidos Interactive. Players guide the archaeologist-adventurer through multi-room tomb complexes, solving puzzles, fighting wildlife and hunting for the Scion of Atlantis.

The PAL PlayStation release landscape is one of the broadest in the database. We currently catalogue 14 variants across the UK, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain, with the earliest PAL release dated 25 November 1996. Release types run from the Original through Platinum and Reprint pressings to the Riccochet and Value Series Black Label budget lines, with a Value Series Riccochet issue as well.

Packaging varies more than on most titles. Early pressings used Multiway Jewel cases in one-disk and two-disk formats, while later budget and Platinum releases moved to the Full Jewel PAL case. Hologram B and No Hologram cases are both documented. Every variant holds a single disk, and language coverage spans English, French and German.

Loose paperwork is documented too, including the Eidos Purple Games With Character Catalogue, the Eidos Interactive Knutsford Registration Card, the Deathtrap Dungeon Competition Card, the Eidos Eye-Trek Olympus Card and a German leaflet. For collectors, this is a rewarding title to complete, as the inserts and case changes make each pressing distinct.
