Star Wars: Dark Forces

Star Wars: Dark Forces is a first-person shooter developed by LucasArts using the bespoke Jedi game engine, following mercenary Kyle Katarn as he uncovers the Empire’s Dark Trooper Project. The game introduced level design features uncommon to the genre at the time, including multiple floors and the ability to look up and down. Five PAL variants are catalogued across the UK, Sweden, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain, with the UK and Sweden sharing one serial, while France, Germany, Italy, and Spain each received dedicated serials. All releases use Full Jewel PAL cases on a single disc with no holograms. Notable research details include a German pressing where the front cover notes English gameplay but the manual is in German and Dutch, and a French pressing carrying an invalid EAN code on the barcode, corrected on the cover. These variants make the complete PAL set an interesting research project as much as a collecting goal.
