Soccer '97
SLES-00691
Initially Released 10 March 1997
Soccer ‘97 is a football simulation game developed by Silicon Dreams and published by Eidos Interactive, released in March 1997. The game features commentary from John Motson with summaries from Andy Gray, presentation segments by Des Lynam, and player motion capture by David Ginola using Silicon Dreams’ MotionBlending technology.
Only a single PAL variant has been catalogued to date, a UK Original release in a Full Jewel PAL case with no hologram on the case. The disc is a single release and the packaging supports English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish text. Game modes include league and cup tournaments, a practice option, adjustable simulation and arcade settings with toggleable fouls, injuries, and offsides, a six-versus-six indoor mode, and multiplayer support.
The UK-exclusivity of the currently catalogued variant is notable, and it is possible further European releases exist that have not yet been documented. Research into broader PAL distribution is ongoing. For collectors interested in mid-era PlayStation football titles from Eidos, Soccer ‘97 is a modest but period-appropriate find.
