RayStorm is a vertically scrolling shooter developed by Taito Corporation and published in Europe by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, originally an arcade title from 1996. Players pilot the R-Gray starship through eight stages against the forces of the Secilia Federation, using both direct fire and a lock-on missile system to engage multiple enemies simultaneously.
Three PAL variants have been catalogued, covering the UK, France, Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands. All are Original releases in the Mini Jewel Black Bordered PAL case format with a single English-language disc. A UK-specific pressing, a German pressing, and a combined France, Italy, and Netherlands pressing each carry distinct EAN barcodes under serial SCES-00742. All share a release date of 15 September 1997.
RayStorm is one of three Taito “Ray” shooter titles, alongside RayForce and RayCrisis, and is distinguished by its use of polygon-based spacecraft. The PlayStation version received favourable reviews for its visual style. For shooter collectors, this is a desirable PAL title, and all three variants are achievable.
