Initially Released 10 September 1997
Ray Tracers is an arcade-style vehicular combat racing game developed by Taito Corporation and published in Europe by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe in September 1997. Players take the wheel for a futuristic racing team created to take down the armed gang Black Kaiser, driving at high speeds across city circuits while using combat abilities. The game has been compared to Taito’s own Chase H.Q. arcade title.
Three PAL variants have been catalogued, covering the UK, France, Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands. All are Original releases in the Mini Jewel Black Bordered PAL case format with a single English-language disc. Country groupings are UK-specific, France and Germany combined, and Italy and Netherlands combined, each with distinct EAN barcodes and sharing serial SCES-00741. All carry a release date of 10 September 1997.
Ray Tracers was later re-released on the PlayStation Network. The consistent Mini Jewel Black Bordered PAL format across all three variants aligns with Sony CEE’s presentation of other Taito-developed titles released in the same window.
