PaRappa the Rapper: The Hip Hop Hero
PaRappa the Rapper is a rhythm game developed by NanaOn-Sha and published by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, widely considered the first true rhythm video game. Created by music producer Masaya Matsuura in collaboration with artist Rodney Greenblat, the game follows the loveable dog PaRappa as he learns to rap from various master teachers in pursuit of Sunny’s heart.
Two PAL variants have been catalogued, a UK-specific pressing and a broader continental pressing covering France, Germany, the Netherlands, and Italy. Both are Original releases in the Full Jewel PAL case format with a single disc each, supporting English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish. Both carry serial SCES-00743 and a release date of 1 September 1997.
Research notes indicate that the two variants differ in their manual format: the UK pressing includes a poster-format manual, while the continental version includes a booklet-format manual, a genuinely interesting physical distinction. PaRappa remains one of the most celebrated and collectible PAL PlayStation titles.
