NFL Xtreme

NFL Xtreme is an arcade style American football game developed and published by 989 Studios, intended as a rival to Midway’s NFL Blitz series. It is played five-on-five, with licensed NFL teams and stadiums, big hits and a deliberate disregard for the official rules.

PAL release landscape

Five variants are catalogued, all Original releases, with the earliest PAL release dated 1998-10-10. They cover the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Greece and Portugal, and all of them share a single serial number, so the regional pressings are best separated by their EAN barcodes.

Physical characteristics

Every copy is a single disk in a Full Jewel PAL case, and the game is English only in every territory, with no localised text for the continental markets. This makes it a very consistent title to collect, as the only real differences are the country of sale and the barcode.

Collector interest

American football never had a large following in Europe, so the title was a niche proposition for many of these markets, and complete copies from the smaller territories such as Greece and Portugal can be harder to find. It suits collectors who like completing a full set of regional pressings.
