NBA Jam Extreme

NBA Jam Extreme is a basketball arcade game developed by Sculptured Software and published by Acclaim Entertainment, based on the 1996-97 NBA season. It was the first Jam title from Acclaim and the first in the series to use 3D graphics, with Marv Albert providing commentary and an Extreme button acting as a souped-up version of the classic Turbo button. Shawn Kemp and Hakeem Olajuwon appear on the cover.

The PAL release landscape is small and focused entirely on the UK. Two variants are catalogued, with the earliest PAL release dated 29 November 1996. The first is the standard Original in a Full Jewel PAL case, while the second is a Promo release housed in a Rental Case, which will interest anyone who likes unusual presentation formats. Both are single-disc English-language copies, and neither carries a hologram.

Because only a UK release is recorded, the game is simple to collect completely, though the Promo rental copy is likely to be the harder of the two to find in good condition. It remains a good snapshot of mid-nineties licensed sports gaming on the original PlayStation.
