Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero is a 1997 action-adventure game developed and published by Midway, released on PlayStation and Nintendo 64. A spin-off from the main fighting game series, it is the first Mortal Kombat title to abandon the traditional tournament format in favour of a side-scrolling action-adventure structure. The game serves as a prequel to the original Mortal Kombat, following Bi-Han, the elder Sub-Zero, in his quest to recover Shinnok’s amulet for the sorcerer Quan Chi. It is also the final game in the series to use digitised actors. A single PAL variant is catalogued, released on 1 December 1997 and covering the UK, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain on a single disc in a Full Jewel PAL case. The game is presented in English. Critics were divided on the title, with praise for the live-action cutscenes on PlayStation and criticism for punishing level design, but it remains a notable curio in Mortal Kombat history.
