Maximum Force is a light gun shooter originally developed by Mesa Logic for Atari Games as an arcade title in 1997, later ported to the PlayStation and Sega Saturn. Tantalus Entertainment handled the PlayStation conversion, with Midway Home Entertainment publishing; the PAL release was handled by Midway Home Entertainment with distribution by GT Interactive Software. The game uses digitised video stored on disc, with 2D sprite enemies set against pre-rendered 3D environments, continuing the approach established by its predecessor Area 51. Only a single PAL variant is catalogued, covering the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the Netherlands across one disc in a Full Jewel PAL case, with English, French, Italian, and Spanish language support. Notably, this same disc was also used in the light gun bundle box set, making it of additional interest to peripheral collectors. Despite commercial success in arcades, the PlayStation version received mixed reviews, and PAL copies remain a relatively unassuming but complete find.
