Madden NFL 97
SLES-00436
Initially Released 15 October 1996
Madden NFL 97 is an American football game developed by Tiburon Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts, representing the first Madden title released for the PlayStation and Sega Saturn. It was notable for introducing a salary cap feature and including the newly formed Baltimore Ravens, making it a historically significant entry in the long-running franchise.
One PAL variant is currently catalogued, covering the UK, France, Spain, the Netherlands, and Germany as a combined multi-territory pressing. The release is presented in a Full Jewel PAL case with no hologram on the case, and contains a single English-language disc. The earliest PAL release date is 15 October 1996.
No loose paperwork or bundled demo discs have been documented. American football has a limited following in the PAL region, and Madden NFL 97 was not widely promoted in Europe compared to its massive success in North America. As a result, finding a clean PAL copy is not always straightforward, and it remains a reasonably interesting pickup for collectors of EA Sports titles from this era.
