Independence Day: The Game

Independence Day: The Game is a combat flight and shooter title based on the 1996 film, developed by Radical Entertainment and published by Fox Interactive. Electronic Arts handled international distribution, and the game also appeared on PC and Sega Saturn.

Nine PAL variants are catalogued, with the earliest PAL release dated 15 July 1997. They cover the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain and fall into two release types, the Original and the Core Multipack. Every variant uses a Full Jewel PAL case and a single disc, and the game carries English, French, German, Italian, Spanish and Swedish language options, so the same multilingual disc appears across the territories. The cases feature a hologram, although the exact type is not recorded.

The Original releases exist for the UK, France and Germany, with two separate German entries, while the Core Multipack versions extend to all five countries. Loose paperwork is documented in the form of a Fox Interactive Soho Square Registration Card, which is a nice extra for completists to look out for.

With so many near-identical entries, the barcodes and release types are what distinguish one copy from another, which makes this a rewarding game for detail-oriented collectors.
