Grand Theft Auto is a top-down action-adventure game developed by DMA Design and published by BMG Interactive, first released in December 1997 for the PlayStation. The game follows a criminal rising through the underworld across three open cities, earning points through missions and other activities, and created considerable controversy even before its launch due to its mature themes.
