Grand Theft Auto

Grand Theft Auto is the first entry in the series, an open-world action game viewed from a top-down perspective and developed by DMA Design. It was published on PlayStation by BMG Interactive Entertainment, with Take 2 Interactive handling later pressings. Players climb the criminal ladder across three cities inspired by real locations, earning points through missions.

The earliest PAL release is dated 14 December 1997. We catalogue 10 variants covering the UK, France, Germany and Italy, spread over five release types: Original, Value Series Black Label, Reprint, Platinum and Enhanced Edition. Several Reprint and Value Series entries carry different hash-suffixed serial revisions, which is a good reason to check the disk details carefully.

Packaging is consistent. Every variant uses the Full Jewel PAL case with a Hologram B, and each holds a single disk. Language coverage is English, French, German and Italian across the board, so the text is the same regardless of country of sale.

The Enhanced Edition is the standout, as it ships with a special version of the disk and an extra soundtrack CD. For collectors, the controversy-laden debut of a landmark series, combined with the many reprint states, makes this an engaging title to collect in depth.
