Formula One 99 is the fourth instalment in Psygnosis’ FIA-licensed Formula One racing series, developed by Studio 33 following the disappointment of Formula 1 98. The game was based on the 1999 Formula One World Championship and notably included substitute drivers from the real season, alongside a new grid editor allowing players to customise the starting grid before a race. During production, Sony Computer Entertainment acquired Psygnosis, making this the final Formula One title released by Psygnosis as an independent label.

The PAL landscape comprises four catalogued variants spanning the UK, France, Germany, and the Netherlands, all sharing disc serial SCES-01979# under the hash-suffix budget-or-revision designation. The earliest catalogued release is dated 1 December 1999. Multilingual coverage spans English, French, German, and Italian.

All four variants ship in Full Jewel PAL cases as single-disc releases with a Hologram B marking on the case. The Summer Releases ‘99 demo has been documented as bundled with at least some pressings in this range. A worthwhile pickup tied to the Psygnosis-to-Sony transition.
