FIFA: Road to World Cup 98 is a football simulation developed by EA Canada and published by Electronic Arts, the fifth game in the FIFA series and the second to use full 3D gameplay on fifth-generation hardware. The game features a dedicated Road to the World Cup mode, 189 clubs across 11 leagues, and 16 outdoor stadia, alongside faster and more responsive action than previous entries. Notable for featuring different cover athletes per territory, including David Beckham for the UK, David Ginola for France, and Paolo Maldini for Italy. PAL collectors will find ten catalogued variants across original and Platinum re-releases for the UK, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain, plus a Platinum pressing shared by the UK, Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. All releases are housed in Full Jewel PAL cases with a single disc. The hologram types on the cases are unconfirmed. The earliest PAL release is dated 28 November 1997.
