Ehrgeiz: God Bless the Ring

Ehrgeiz: God Bless the Ring is a 3D fighting game developed by Dreamfactory and published by Squaresoft. It was one of the publisher’s more unusual releases, stepping away from role playing games into the arena of head to head combat.

Four PAL variants are catalogued, with the earliest dating from May 1999. All of them are Original releases, and between them they cover the UK, Spain, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands. The game is presented in English throughout, so there is no language variation between the countries.

The physical format is very consistent. Each variant is a single disk edition in a Full Jewel PAL case, and the packaging does not change much from one market to the next. The differences collectors will notice come down to the country groupings and the EAN barcodes printed on each case.

Because the game was only issued as an Original and never reappeared on a budget label, copies are not as plentiful as some contemporary fighters. That, along with the Squaresoft name, makes it a worthwhile target for collectors who like to complete a full set of the publisher’s PAL releases.
