Dead or Alive is a 1996 fighting game originally developed by Team Ninja at Tecmo for arcades, later ported to PlayStation for all regions in 1998 and published in PAL territories by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. The game drew on Virtua Fighter for its foundation while adding unique counter and throw mechanics, and the PlayStation version included two exclusive characters not found in the arcade or Saturn versions. Four PAL variants are catalogued, covering the UK, France, Germany, and a combined France and Germany pressing, all as original releases in Full Jewel PAL cases on a single disc. All four were released on 15 July 1998 and are English-only. Dead or Alive went on to become a significant franchise, and this PAL PlayStation release represents the series’ physical debut in the region.
