China, sometimes catalogued as China: The Forbidden City, is a 1998 historical adventure game developed by Cryo Interactive Entertainment in collaboration with Canal+ and the Réunion des Musées Nationaux. The game is set in 18th-century Beijing and follows superintendent Han Jing as he investigates a murder in the Forbidden City. The PAL physical landscape covers France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and the UK across four catalogued variants. Variants are split across language-specific master serials with French on SLES-02090, German on SLES-02295, Italian on SLES-02296 and a multi-territory English issue on SLES-02297. All variants are housed in Full Jewel PAL cases with hologram stickers on the cases and single-disc media. Documented loose paperwork includes the Cryo Interactive 75018 Paris registration card. Originally released on 10 September 1999 in France, this is a relatively obscure but historically interesting Cryo title that holds particular appeal for collectors of European adventure games.
