Area 51

Area 51 is a light gun arcade shooter developed by Mesa Logic and originally published by Atari Games under the Time Warner Interactive label. The game puts players in command of a STAAR military unit responding to an alien takeover of the famous Nevada facility, battling both alien Kronn forces and zombie-infected soldiers. Two PAL variants are catalogued, an Original release under SLES-00578 covering the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Netherlands, and a later Midway Classics reissue under SLES-03783 with undocumented packaging details. The Original release ships in a Full Jewel PAL case with no hologram, in English, French, German, and Spanish, and was released on 26 November 1996. The budget reissue under the Midway Classics banner reflects the game’s later life under Midway’s publishing portfolio. Both variants are of interest to collectors of light gun titles from this era.
