Air Combat
SCES-00007
Initially Released 10 October 1995
Air Combat is a combat flight simulation game developed and published by Namco for the PlayStation, based on a 1993 arcade title and representing the first entry in what would become the long-running Ace Combat franchise. Players take on the role of a mercenary pilot, completing mission-based objectives and earning money to purchase new aircraft.
The database catalogues four PAL variants, distributed across the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Sweden, Finland, and Norway. Release types include Original, Reprint, Platinum, and Value Series Black Label editions. All variants use Full Jewel PAL cases, except the Platinum which uses the Mini Jewel Black Bordered PAL format. Holograms, where present, are found on the cases. Documented loose paperwork includes the Namco 0001 Single Sided insert and a Thin Flyer, found with the Original pressing.
Research notes indicate that the Platinum version sold more copies than the original release, making it the more readily available pressing today. The Value Series and Reprint editions are distinguished by differences in cover and manual presentation.
